The Assessment Department produces three bills a year for all parcels located within the city.

Each year at the end of June, the City Comptroller is required to conduct a Tax Sale certificate auction to allow for the collection of delinquent property taxes. Once a tax sale certificate is auctioned, the owner of the property or any other interested party, such as a mortgage company, will have two years from the tax sale date to redeem their property by paying all back taxes and additional interest charges before losing title to the property.
The bills are mailed by Jan 15th each year and payment is due by Feb 15th without penalty.
The period covered by the tax bill is the County's fiscal year from Jan 1st through Dec 31st of the current year.

School tax bills are mailed by October 4th each year and payment is due without penalty by November 4th.
As of 2021 Watertown City School tax bills for property within the City of Watertown are payable to the City Comptroller.
