Candidates that are selected for full or part-time positions will receive an official offer letter in the mail. Within the offer letter will be details on the next steps that must be completed as part of the hiring process. This process will include a background check and may also include a physical and drug test. Candidates for positions that require the operation of city vehicles will also be subject to a NYS DMV abstract check. Upon completion of all the necessary steps, an official start date will be set (typically on Mondays). On your start date, you will meet with the Human Resource Manager and the Benefits Administrator for onboarding activities.
Full-time employees must be enrolled in the NYS Retirement System. Further information on NYS Retirement benefits can be found here: Retirement | Office of the New York State Comptroller. In addition, full-time employees earn sick time and vacation time in accordance with the collective bargaining agreements. Full-time employees are also eligible for health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, and the City participates with the NYS Deferred Compensation Program.
