Rotunda

These images are taken from the foyer looking up towards the newly renovated murals in the rotunda as you come into the front entrance.  One is taken from the balcony looking down into the foyer. The pictures do not do these paintings justice!!  Artist-Architect was Charles R lamb.

The figurs in the rotunda are by Frederick Stymetz Lamb and are as follows:  HISTORY- Herodotus & Gibbon; FABLE - La FOntaine & esop; EPIC POETRY - Homer & Dante; RELIGION - St John & Moses; SCIENCE - Darwin & Newton; LYRIC - Milton & Virgil; DRAMA - Shakespeare & Moliere adn ROMANCE - Scott & Dumas

Above the figures is a stained glass oculus which forms a skylight "the eye of the dome, which sheds a warm glow and gives that sense of rest so essential in a building."  The flower thene is continued in the oculus and the stained glass colors are the same colors used in the mural.

Inscription on the Frieze under the dome:
"To Know Wisdom and Instruction, to perceive the words of understanding"
