Marriage License

Marriage Licenses are issued Monday through Friday during the following hours:

Sep 1st – May 31st : 9:00am – 4:30pm
Jun 1st – Aug 31st : 8:00am – 3:30pm

Couple must apply in person in the City Clerk’s Office located at:

City Hall
245 Washington Street, Room 101
Watertown, NY 13601

Please bring the following:

Photo ID
Birth Certificate (certified copy)
If there is a prior marriage, Divorce Papers or Death Certificate (certified copies)
Fee of $40 (cash only)

There is a 24 hour waiting period but otherwise the marriage license is valid in New York State for the next 60 days.

Getting Married in New York State

Wedding Ceremony

We have Marriage Officers on staff to perform marriages at City Hall. Ceremonies are performed in the City Clerk’s Office or outdoors in the gazebo situated between City Hall and the Library (weather permitting).

Wedding Ceremonies are performed Monday through Friday during the following hours:

Sep 1st – May 31st : 9:30am – 4:00pm
Jun 1st – Aug 31st : 8:30am – 3:00pm

Appointments can be made for the ceremony while obtaining the Marriage License or by calling the City Clerk’s Office at (315) 785-7780. We request 24 hour advance notice.

Fee of $60 (cash only) for the ceremony

If the Marriage License was purchased in our office, you will receive your certified documents immediately following the ceremony.
