DOWNTOWN TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY

SCHEDULED FOR THURSDAY, DECEMBER 2, 2010 AT 5:30 P.M.

On Thursday, December 2, 2010 at 5:30 p.m., Watertown Mayor Jeffrey E. Graham and the members of the City Council will host the annual Downtown Tree Lighting Ceremony on Public Square.

The holiday festivities will begin with a performance by members of the Northern Blend Chorus. The Northern Blend Chorus, a women’s barbershop chorus, has just returned from a gold medal winning performance at the International Quartet and Chorus Convention of Harmony, Inc. held in Saint John, New Brunswick.

Following the choral performance, Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive in their sleigh to help the Mayor and City Council turn on the City’s holiday tree and the music and light display. The music and light display features thousands of LED lights that are synchronized to a variety of different holiday songs. The 22 minute long music and light display will run every 30 minutes each night from 4:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. and will be on from December 2, 2010 through January 3, 2011.

During the event, mulled cider and hot cocoa will be served free of charge courtesy of the Downtown Business Association and Johnny D’s.

While the tree lighting ceremony is taking place, the North side of Public Square will be closed to traffic. Motorists in the area during the event are encouraged to utilize on the many free City parking lots and enjoy the show.
